How Kill Me Baby Became a Cult Anime Hit in Japan

10178714aRemember Kill Me Baby? No? That would be understandable seeing as it was an obscure J.C. Staff anime from 2012 and has an average MAL rating of 6.96.

In Japan, though, Kill Me Baby has become something of an internet meme. Its popularity has only increased over time. This is particularly interesting because at first, Japanese viewers watched the show and thought, “Baby, please kill me.” That is to say, it was not a popular show when it first aired. The first BD volume sold a grand total of 686 units in the first week.

And yet somehow Japanese viewers changed their mind. When the Bluray boxset was released a year later, it sold over 4000 units despite costing some 16,800 yen. It outsold Toaru Majutsu no Index II (3830) and Infinite Stratos (2577). How did this miraculous turnabout happen?

Correction: Ouma Shu Had the Worst Christmas

(This post is part of a series of posts covering Christmas-themed anime episodes. For more posts like these, check out the 12 Days of Anime tag.)

If I thought Kirito had a crap Christmas, Ouma Shu of Guilty Crown fame blows his suffering out of the water. The Lost Christmas in Guilty Crown involved Ouma Shu getting sexually harassed by his yandere older sister and a whole city of people dying in the apocalypse. Can’t get much worse than that!

TIL: Anime Bloggers REALLY Hate Itsudatte My Santa

(This post is part of a series of posts covering Christmas-themed anime episodes. For more posts like these, check out the 12 Days of Anime tag.)

Itsudatte My Santa is quite possibly a prime contender for the Worst Anime Ever Made. It’s a two-part ecchi romcom OVA about a boy named Santa who meets the actual Santa Claus – who turns out to be a big-breasted blonde girl with a pet reindeer called Pedro. What makes this anime particularly awful is not its silliness but the fact that it is not silly enough. For about half of its running time it takes its maudlin drama incredibly seriously, which kills all of its campy entertainment value.

The Best Thing About Log Horizon is the OP

It’s not that Log Horizon is that bad a show. It’s just that from watching the OP you’d think it would at least attempt to have an action scene every episode, instead of long drawn-out scenes showing bored video gamers getting excited over eating sandwiches. Maybe the OP ruined me. Maybe it made me assume the show would be more badass than it actually ended up being. For better or worse, though, the show itself is just a pleasant slice of life romp in an MMORPG world, with some occasional serious plot elements thrown in.
