Mari Okada’s Biography is NOW Available in English + An Exclusive Interview!

It’s finally out!

As I mentioned in a blog post last month, I translated Mari Okada’s biography! The English book, which is published by J-Novel Club, is now out on ebook stores. As I mentioned before, please do support this release if you’re interested in seeing more books written by anime creators get an English translation.

If you’re still undecided about whether to pick up the ebook, there’s an exclusive excerpt on Anime News Network, which covers how Okada got her start in the anime industry.

As part of the promotion for the book, I also did an interview with Okada herself. I was very lucky to get this opportunity! This is the most in-depth interview with Okada that you’ll find in English (barring translations from Japanese magazines), so I hope you find it interesting!

Between the book and the interview, there should be more documentation about Okada than ever. If this gets at least one person to learn something new about Okada’s life and how anime screenwriting works, I’d be happy.

That’s all for now! Until next time!

  1. Be happy then! I learned quite a few new things. Absolutely love her writing and can’t wait to see Maquia…heard nothing but great things about it from people in Japan.

  2. Congratulations! I will buy a copy. You might want to set up an Amazon affiliates account so that when you promote the Amazon link, you use your own affiliate link- you can make a bit more that way AND also know who bought via your promotion.

    • Thanks! I already got paid for translating the book, so I don’t think I need to set up an Amazon affiliates link, though. I am also ambivalent about Amazon as a company and wouldn’t necessarily recommend that people buy the book from there unless it’s most convenient for them. Thank you for the thought in any case.
