Silvachief over at The Geek Clinic asked me to answer some questions over at his blog. He also gave his own answers here. I like how these questions can be answered succinctly and with little effort. I consider them basic questions for any anime fan.

2014: Year in Retrospect
It’s that time of the year, guys! Time to look back on all the Japanese cartoons and declare how shit they all were!
I’m joking, of course. While I haven’t actually watched enough anime this year to string together a top 10 anime list, I did enjoy the stuff I got around to watching. I also feel that this was a productive year for me as an anime fan and for the aniblogsphere in general.
Time for the highlights!
Rationality versus Irrationality in Aldnoah.Zero

Aldnoah. Zero‘s a funny anime for me. Although I was only ever capable of taking the narrative half-seriously at best (as my dumb shipping posts should attest), I actually did find the themes interesting on paper. Or perhaps it would be more accurate to say that I found how others reacted to these themes interesting. After watching A.Z and reading the reactions on Twitter, Reddit and MAL, two questions have remained on my mind ever since: firstly, what does it mean to be rational? And secondly, is rationality an ideal worth pursuing?

“Baka Slaine, why didn’t you call me?!”
Things were going really well for Slaine and his relationship prospects until the princess’s double exploded and an interplanetary war ensued. He and his sort-of-but-not-really girlfriend lost all touch. They couldn’t even text each other. But Slaine thought they could weather the storm together. After all, he and the princess had already had their first KISSU a long time ago. They were totally going to get married.
Unfortunately, trouble was brewing on the relationship front.
